Our Hydro-formed Sound Dampening Aluminum Skid Plates are designed to safeguard the front and rear axle drive units of your Model Y, effectively reducing road noise. Constructed from 1 8” thick powder-coated aluminum, these skid plates are reinforced with 1 8” sound dampening acoustic urethane foam.
Why do all Model Y owners need this protection:
All Stock Model Ys manufactured from 2020 onwards incorporate a thin plastic axel protection pad for underbody protection. However, this component is prone to cracking and detachment from the underside of the vehicle. This vulnerability arises from excessive speed over speed bumps, steep driveways, or road debris. Additionally, the plastic shell facilitates the transmission of road noise, tire noise, and underbody wind noise upwards towards the cabin.
Equipped with sound-dampening skid plates, your vehicle’s motors and axles will be safeguarded, simultaneously enhancing the tranquility within the passenger cabin.
ROAD NOISE REDUCTION:
Many have asked us how much quieter this will make the Model Y s. We have done sound meter testing with and without the sound dampening skid plates and the difference varied based on road surface smoothness, wind direction, and other variables. On average we measured a difference of 3 to 5 decibels. Also, the location of the sound meter was key.
It is also fair to note that Model Y had other noise reduction products on it as well, so having an even quieter cabin made it easier to distinguish the difference with and without this product being installed.
